DIALux evo 14 Update: What’s New (+ Full Version History)
DIALux evo has come a long way since version 8.1. The free lighting design software from DIAL GmbH is now on DIALux evo 14 (current patch: 5.14.0.4, released 16 June 2026), and this release focuses on something every lighting designer working on large projects has asked for: faster, more manageable calculations.

What’s New in DIALux evo 14
1. Room-by-Room Calculation
This is the headline feature of evo 14, and it solves a real pain point. Previously, any change to a large project meant recalculating the entire model — which could take a long time on projects with many rooms and hundreds of luminaires.
With evo 14, you can now calculate individual rooms or areas independently. Each room’s results are saved separately and then combined into an overall project result. This means you can:
- Plan one room at a time on large projects without waiting on a full recalculation
- Add new rooms or areas to a project incrementally
- Update a single space without discarding results elsewhere
Status icons in the results monitor now show at a glance whether each room’s results are current, pending, or outdated, and you can discard results selectively rather than clearing the whole project. This feature is included in the free version of DIALux evo — no Pro subscription required.
2. Scope Box View
BIM models often include components that extend beyond room boundaries — cabling, ceiling voids, structural elements — which can clutter the view when working room by room. The new Scope Box view fixes this: within any room view, only geometry that’s actually inside that room is displayed, and everything outside it is automatically hidden.
It’s enabled by default in evo 14, but can be turned off in program settings if you prefer the old behavior.
3. Native Revit Add-In
DIALux evo 14 introduces a dedicated Revit Add-In as part of DIAL’s push toward end-to-end BIM workflows. It reads luminaire and room data directly from IFC models and places luminaires as Revit families in their correct positions, complete with levels, spaces, and product data standardized to ANSI/IES TM-32-24.
If a lighting design started in Revit instead, placed luminaires import into DIALux as identifiable placeholders that you can swap for real, photometric-data-backed luminaires in a few clicks. For teams running BIM pipelines across DIALux and Revit, this closes a workflow gap that previously required manual matching.
4. Intelligent Model Breakdown
A newer addition rolling out alongside evo 14 lets you break down imported, complex models step by step while preserving their original object structure and hierarchy — instead of exploding the whole model into disconnected triangles and surfaces, which used to mean hours of manual rebuilding to get usable parts back.
How to Update to DIALux evo 14
DIALux evo checks for updates automatically, but you can also download the latest installer directly:
- Go to dialux.com/en-GB/download
- Download the free installer (Windows 10/11, 64-bit)
- Before updating: back up any active projects — DIAL notes that existing projects may need to be recalculated after loading them in evo 14
- Run the installer and sign in with your DIALux ID (free to create if you don’t have one)
DIALux evo remains free to use for personal, educational, and commercial purposes. Note that since 2024, luminaires from non-Member manufacturers require either a DIALux Pro subscription or the “Unlock Non-Members” add-on; luminaires from DIALux’s 450+ Members remain free in the base version.
